Big Country to Big City

So we were called on last weekend to help out with the old man’s pet cows…. For the majority of the world we only get close to one of those bad boys as it sizzles on the grill however I found myself with a face full of cow trying to hold down this oversized T-bone long before it met its time on my BBQ.  It was almost comical watching a couple wannabe rednecks chasing after this steer whose last memory of these strange men ended in the loss of his manhood.

We were a little concerned with the branding and shots at this time because another redneck had one of his steer die from the stress of the ordeal earlier on in the week. Although we were in rough condition after wrestling this little guy I think we made out pretty dang good. As for T-Bone he ended up with a less than professional branding job and a new hate for these city slickers. I think the only thing that went 100% as planned was the shots that were administered to the cow by an official RN. I had to laugh at the thought of how many cows had received their shots by an Registered Nurse…..

The next day I was off to the big city. We landed in New York in the early afternoon so less than 24 hours this world had taken me through a complete time warp. The ride to the city from JFK felt like something out of movie with the way the driver navigated the cattle of the far east. I don’t get car sick all that often however the one hour circus ride just about did me in.

The trip to New York was a true trip for work however it ended up having just as much fun packed in as any vacation. We spent the later part day one trying to navigate the city on foot. We ended up walking a couple miles trekking through Time Square and Broadway finally ending up at the Empire State Building. I think it was more amazing to just be there around all the history however the view from the top of the world overlooking one of the largest cities in the world was inspiring.

Day two we walked the fifteen blocks to the event center to set up the booth for the trade show. It was a little rainy however the buildings seem to shelter you from a lot of the moisture from above. It was not long before the booth was set up and we were off for another adventure. We ended up finding a hop on hop off bus tour that took us around the historical city. We decided to hop of at Ground Zero to check out the new memorial and shoot some video of the financial district.

The light rain and setting sun seemed to add an almost reverent feel to the memorial. I had a hard time not asking myself all the same questions going through each of our minds the morning of the attack. I couldn’t even imagine how it must have felt to be around the towers on that dreadful day. It was interesting to learn that the only building on the block of the Trade Centers that did not crumble was one of the original churches built in New York City.

We ended up being the only ones on the bus heading back to our area of the city so we had a one on one tour with our guide. When I asked about food and best places to eat in the city he definitely had his opinion and when I asked about Pat’s he opened up and said, “You mean KATS!” That is by far the best place in the city. Needless to say we ended up having the bus make a slight detour and my eyes open to my world of melting Corned Beef Brisket and Smoked Roast Beef. All I can say is that was the best 17$ sandwich I have ever had.

The show went great and it was not long before we had finished our stay in the city. Although the city of New York is amazing I think the only thing I will miss is the 1$ pizza at 2 bro’s PIZZA and watching someone that pays 5k a month on rent pick up their dogs sweaty poop off the sidewalk. With that being said I would give only one piece of advice to you for your next trip to New York City.  Don’t shake the hand of a hot girl walking her dog on the street with a fanny pack on her hip…… Let’s just say you will take home a lot more than you ever expected.

Retired......

So my favorite thing to say these days is “I love being retired.” My wife always quickly reminds me that unemployed is not retirement and I better get down to business. Although my new found time is well spent with the wife and kids I now know a little more of what the ladies go through at home when the men slave away at work.

We have listed the house on KSL and Craigslist so if any of you out there are looking for a place, feel free to drop me a line. We have had a number of interested parties however we just haven’t found the perfect family that we feel will take our place in our home.

We made it down to Fountain Green to check out the new place. You can definitely tell the house was built around 1910. Shandra had a little harder time warming up to the place however it would not take us long to make that place feel just like home. When we get things taken care of in Herriman I am going to be calling on the best of you to help us in our voyage to the promise land.

I will continue to keep you updated so check in from time to time.  Now back to being retired.....
